American Airlines Expands Summer 2026 Routes to Budapest, Prague, and Buenos Aires

American Airlines is reviving some of its pre-pandemic destinations like Prague and Budapest, Hungary, as international travel continues to hold up better than domestic demand.

New Destinations for Summer 2026

American Airlines is adding flights to Budapest, Prague, and Buenos Aires for summer 2026. This includes the first-ever Dallas Fort Worth International flights to Athens and year-round service between Miami and Milan. The airline is also extending service for the 2026 World Cup, with flights from Buenos Aires to Dallas and between Dallas and Zurich from May 21 to August 4.

Strategic Expansion in Europe

Brian Znotins, American’s senior vice president of network and schedule planning, noted the airline’s focus on expanding European routes. He mentioned a strong demand for travel to Italy and Greece, prompting the addition of more options from U.S. hubs like Dallas and Charlotte.

World Cup Travel and Business Opportunities

Znotins highlighted the high number of travelers from Argentina to Qatar during the 2022 World Cup, anticipating increased travel for the 2026 event in North America. The airline aims to capitalize on business travel and sports tourism opportunities.

Connecting Through U.S. Hubs

American Airlines is betting on customers preferring connections through U.S. hubs. The airline is enhancing its network to facilitate travel to popular European destinations like Rome and Athens.

With these expansions, American Airlines is positioning itself to capture a larger share of the international travel market, particularly in Europe and South America.
